About Me

So you want to know more about me, eh?

Well, I'm a wanderer, a published writer/photographer and a 30-something, generation zero Canadian expat of mixed Asian ancestry.

I've lived in 7 cities and 4 countries but I have visited and hung out in over 85 cities, towns and villages in 11 countries. I was born in Borneo but I grew up on the Canadian prairies. My first degree was in Women's History and Comparative Religious Studies. Then I got extra edumacated with a BFA in Creative Writing, with a minor in Professional Writing, on Vancouver Island on the Canadian west coast.
I like to go places and look at things. I take photos. I scribble in my black notebooks. I eat and I drink. If at all possible I laugh. Laugher is golden. My passions lie in photos, words and travel. And while I have kept journals all my life, this blog is my attempt at keeping a public notebook. I began this blog as an outlet for my creative projects and photos; a way to remind me that I am more than my day job, and to reinforce my purpose for being in Europe - to see stuff and to live fully. My intention is to smash through my creative blocks and sing with the wolves on the other side. I moved to London in July 2010 after having lived in the multi-ethnic barrio of Lavapiés in Madrid, Spain since Fall 2006. These are my stories...

Am I for hire? Can I write and/or take photos for you? Hell Ya!

My work has appeared on CBC Radio, in the New Yorker Online, the Guardian, the Winnipeg Free Press, Calgary Herald, the Wallet Gallery, Schmap Travel Guide, Brink Guide for iphone and everthenomad.com.

El Gato Verde, Madrid, Spain, 2010

I’m always looking to pick up writing and photography gigs. If you’re hiring writers/photographers – freelance and/or contract – and would like to see my resume, some samples or clippings, drop me a line at shehani_k [at] hotmail [dot] com. Otherwise, since this is my evolving online portfolio of sorts, have a good look around my blog for an idea of what I do and how I do it. Enjoy and I'd love to hear from you!
